Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) succumbed to a disappointing defeat against Delhi Capitals in their previous outing. While the batters did a decent enough job with the bat in the first innings, the bowlers were taken apart by the Delhi batters in the second innings.

Faf du Plessis' men will now square off against a dangerous Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next fixture. While Faf and Virat Kohli looked in good touch in the previous encounter, Mahipal Lomror's breezy half-century was the biggest positive for RCB. However, the team will hope for more runs from the middle-order batters, especially Glenn Maxwell, who has had a few quiet games recently.

Here's Royal Challengers Bangalore's predicted XI against Mumbai Indians:

Openers: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli

Veteran South African batting star Faf du Plessis continued his purple patch with the bat, smashing 45 runs off just 32 deliveries to ensure a brisk start for his side in Delhi. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper stitched a solid 82-run opening stand along with former skipper Virat Kohli to lay the platform for a big score.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli was the glue that held RCB's innings together in their previous encounter against David Warner's Delhi Capitals. While he became the first cricketer to breach the 7000 run mark in the competition's history during his 55 runs innings, he wouldn't be too pleased with his mode of dismissal.

Middle Order: Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Anuj Rawat, Kedar Jadhav

RCB's strong start in Delhi came to an abrupt halt after DC's star Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh bagged two crucial wickets in two consecutive balls with his compatriot Glenn Maxwell being his second victim. It was a third successive single-digit score for Maxwell as he was dismissed for a golden duck by his national teammate. He needs to rediscover his prime touch with the bat as RCB are involved in an intense battle for qualification to the playoffs.

With the team in a spot of bother after losing two quick wickets, Mahipal Lomror came to the rescue for the Bangalore-based side. The young southpaw looked in impeccable touch from the get-go and registered his first half-century in the competition. His 57-run stand with Virat Kohli came at a crucial juncture in RCB's innings. He could prove to be an invaluable asset to the team in the middle order if he continues his form in the upcoming matches.

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik came into bat in the latter stages of the innings against Delhi Capitals. However, he was not able to provide the necessary acceleration to the RCB's innings after being restricted to a sluggish cameo. He managed just 11 runs in the nine deliveries he faced in the match.

Young Indian dasher Anuj Rawat wasn't afforded too many deliveries as he came to bat at the fag end of the innings. However, he did manage to make an impact, smashing eight runs in just three deliveries to take his side to a competitive total. Kedhar Jadhav, who was roped in as an injury replacement for IPL 2023, did not get the opportunity to bat and was subbed off in the second innings for Harshal Patel.

Bowlers: Wanindu Hasaranga, Karn Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj

Star Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasranga was rendered ineffective by the Delhi batters in a bruising assault in the second innings. The canny spinner was taken for 32 runs in his four overs, surprisingly, the least expensive bowler from RCB.

Karn Sharma was another RCB bowler who was taken to the cleaners in RCB's previous outing. Although he scalped the big wicket of Phil Salt, that wicket came a bit too late for the Men in Red and Gold as Delhi cruised to the target without breaking a sweat. The veteran Indian leggie returned with disappointing figures of 1/33 in his three overs.

Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, who was in glorious touch with the ball on his return to the competition in his last game, was not able to replicate the same performance this time around. Although he managed to get rid of the opposition skipper in the powerplay, the carnage continued from the other end, with Hazlewood conceding 29 runs in his three overs.

RCB's frontline pacer Mohammed Siraj endured a rare off-colour day in the competition against the Delhi Capitals. He wasn't at his best in the powerplay and was taken apart in his two overs, conceding 28 runs. To make things worse, he was even involved in an altercation with opposing batter Phil Salt. However, he buried the hatchet after the match, hugging it out with the Englishman.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Probable Playing XI:

Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (c), Anuj Rawat, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Wanindu Hasaranga, Karn Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Josh Hazlewood

Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Probable Impact Players:

Akash Deep, Avinash Singh, Harshal Patel, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Shahbaz Ahmed
