Gujarat Titans faced Lucknow Super Giants in the 21st match of the Indian Premier League in Lucknow. After winning the toss, Lucknow opted to bat first and posted a competitive score of 163/5 on the board with the help of some contributions from Ayush Badoni, KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis.
In reply, the away side had a great start to the chase as they got a fifty-run opening stand. But everything went downhill from there as they lost five wickets for 26 runs. From there, the Lucknow Super Giants took a stronghold on the game. The hosts won the game convincingly by a margin of 33 runs. Let’s take a look at the three changes that Gujarat Titans should make ahead of their next game against Rajasthan Royals.
Here are the 3 changes Gujarat Titans should make to get back to winning ways
3. Slot in Shahrukh Khan for Vijay Shankar
Gujarat Titans’ team selection has been dodgy this season and have not been able to fix a few key spots in the line-up. The selection of Vijay Shankar has been questionable as he has not performed in any of the five games till now. He is also known for his medium-pace bowling but that has not been utilised yet by the skipper Shubman Gill.
This might be the right time for the team management to bring Shahrukh Khan into the line-up. The kind of skills he offers might be a lot beneficial to the team as he can contribute with his power-hitting abilities. The all-rounder can also be useful with the ball as he can claim wickets using his off-spin. He is a solid option who is sitting on the bench and it is high time that the franchise has a look at him.
2. Utilise the services of Kartik Tyagi
When Gujarat Titans signed Karthik Tyagi during the Indian Premier League 2024 Auctions in Dubai, it was certain that he would start for the franchise. However, it hasn’t been the case as he is sitting on the bench and has not played a single match till now this season.
Given his explosive pace and maturity at such a young age, he can surely be a starter in this new-look Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack. He can be a solid option at the death as well and can be used in place of Darshan Nalkande. The bowler has been decent and even with the bat, could not contribute much for the side.
1. Aggressive intent
There is always some talk about the batting approach when teams have faced defeat. In this game, aggressive intent is going to be a much-talked-about topic. The Gujarat Titans had a great powerplay as they lost a wicket and had over fifty on the board. It was after they took the slow approach in the game, that is where they faltered.
They went from 54-0 to 80-5 in no time as the batters struggled with the spin in the pitch in Lucknow. The batters were trying to settle in and that increased the required run rate in this game. They might need to use an aggressive approach in their next game if they want to have a good batting effort.
