In the 44th game of the Indian Premier League 2024, Rajasthan Royals took on the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow. The visitors were looking to put one foot in the play-offs with a win today. They also won the toss and opted to bowl first, in the hope of chasing down the total later on.
Their new ball bowlers delivered once again for them as the hosts found themselves two wickets down inside the first two overs. A steady partnership between KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda has them the foundation for a competitive total of 196.
In response, the Rajasthan openers played their shots in the powerplay and gave them a steady start. However, three quick wickets resulted in their downfall. Skipper Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel led the chase from there and finished off the chase with an over to spare.
Here are the three changes that Lucknow Super Giants should make ahead of their next game:
3. Better fielding
Fielding has been one aspect where the Lucknow Super Giants have been lacking a lot in the past few matches. In the previous match, Yash Thakur dropped a sitter and again in this match he dropped two chances. On both occasions today, Sanju Samson should have been dismissed and it would have been beneficial for the side.
Considering they have one of the best fielders of our beloved game as their fielding coach, the basics need to be straightened out sooner rather than later. The phrase 'Catches win matches' always comes in handy when chances are put down during crucial junctures of the game.
2. Bring in Mayank Yadav for Yash Thakur
Mayank Yadav was a revelation in the first half of the campaign and his sheer pace was being utilized well by the franchise. His spells during the middle overs were sublime to watch and since his absence, the Lucknow Super Giants might be missing their X-factor bowler.
Yash Thakur was roped into the team in place of him but even though he has been taking a wicket or two in games, he has not been the deciding factor for his side. Moreover, Yash's fielding has come into question off late and it might be time to bring the young pacer back into the team.
1. Start Kyle Mayers over QDK
Quinton de Kock has had a decent campaign thus far and even though he has been amongst the runs, his consistency might be questionable. Over the past two matches, the opener has contributed only the right runs. Moreover, in the game against Chennai Super Kings, he got a valuable fifty but was quite lucky on more than a few occasions to not be sent back to the pavilion.
It might be time for the team management to bring back Kyle Mayers into the frame of things. The opener's aggressive intent can turn out to be great for the franchise and it might also be a way in which the side can post big totals as he is known to convert his starts into big knocks.
