IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans' strongest predicted playing XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be facing each other in the 12th match of the IPL 2024. Both the teams have had a contrasting journey in the league so far. While GT won the first match and SRH lost their first match, the 2022 champions lost their second match and the 2016 champions won their second match. Both the teams will be facing each other at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which promises to be a good contest between bat and ball.

It will be the second match at Ahmedabad in the IPL 2024 and the first in the afternoon. There will be no dew factor and the toss might not be such an important factor. However, winning the match would be on the priority list of both teams. SRH have some of the best players in the world in their lineup. At the top of the batting order, they have the duo of Travis Head and Mayank Agarwal who complement well. The left-right duo can come good in the upcoming games.

In the middle order, SRH have the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Abul Samad, and many others who can make an impact with the bat. In the bowling unit, SRH has some great bowlers like Pat Cummins, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Jaydev Unadkat. In addition to that, they have some good bowlers in the dugout like T Natarajan. Given how things panned out in the last game, SRH would be high on confidence.

Here is the probable playing XI of GT for the match against SRH in IPL 2024, Match 12:

Openers - Shubman Gill (C) and Wriddhiman Saha (WK) 

Shubman Gill will open the innings along with Wriddhiman Saha. The star batter has not yet fired with the bat as well as the fans expect from him. It would be a good opportunity for the right-handed batter to make an impact with the bat, given his record at home. Gill will also lead the side following the trade of Hardik Pandya to MI. In the absence of some key players, there is an added responsibility for Gill to perform well in the 17th season of the IPL.

Wriddhiman can go hard at the top. Unfortunately, the experienced batter has not been able to bat well in the IPL 2024 till now. The right-handed batter would be hoping to make a statement against SRH given the familiarity with the conditions. He will also be the wicketkeeper for GT in the match. Given the nature of the wicket, powerplay overs become crucial, which is where the duo needs to make the most of the opportunities at the top. GT also has Matthew Wade as the backup opener.

Middle Order - David Miller and Sai Sudarshan

Sai Sudarshan will bat at number 3 for GT. The youngster was brilliant in the final of the IPL 2023 where he smashed an impressive 96 against CSK. The Southpaw has played two matches in the ongoing season and scored the most runs for GT in both matches. The key for him would be to bat with better intent in the middle. In addition to it, GT will have the services of David Miller in the middle order, who is likely to bat at number 5.

Miller has not yet fired with the bat in the ongoing season. He was one of the main reasons behind the success of GT in the league in the last couple of seasons, where GT performed exceptionally well. Miller is yet to reach the mark of 30 runs in a match. He can still deliver the goods when it matters the most. But the Southpaw needs to bat well against SRH, which could provide them the momentum. GT also has Kane Williamson, Abhinav Manohar, and Shah Rukh Khan waiting for their chances.

All-Rounder - Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan

Despite losing Hardik in the trade, GT has a plethora of All-rounders. In the middle order, GT will have the services of Azmatullah Omarzai and Vijay Shankar who can step up both with the bat and with the ball. Omarzai can swing the new ball and be the anchor in the middle order. If necessary, he can bat with intent. Vijay Shankar had a brilliant season with the bat in 2023. He would be hoping to have the same impact in the IPL 2024.

Lower down the order, GT has Rahul Tewatia as the designated finisher. In the last season, he was not that good as a finisher. Even in the ongoing season, the Southpaw has not been able to do anything special. He would be hoping to change that. At number 8, GT will have Rashid Khan, who is almost a genuine All-Rounder. His form with the ball is a concern for GT. In case of early wickets, Khan can be handy with his batting abilities lower down the order.

Bowlers - R Sai Kishore, Umesh Yadav, Spencer Johnson, and Mohit Sharma (Impact substitute) 

GT is likely to start with Umesh Yadav and Spence Johnson as the main pacers. While Umesh will share the new ball with Omarzai, Spencer might come in the middle overs and close out the innings later on with Mohit Sharma. The latter will have a big role to play for GT in the absence of Mohammed Shami. So far, Sharma has been able to deliver the goods as a bowler. He has been bowling yorkers and slower ones well. GT would hope to see him consistently in the coming days.

In the middle overs phase, GT will have the spin duo of Rashid Khan and R Sai Kishore. Rashid has not been that good as a bowler till now. The star spinner has gone for now and would be hoping to be economical. Sai Kishore has been the best bowler for his side in the league till now. He can even add some runs lower down the order as a batter. GT has some options like Noor Ahmed and Kartik Tyagi if anyone goes out of form or gets injured.
