IPL 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders' strongest predicted playing XI against Delhi Capitals

Two-time winners, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), head to Visakhapatnam's Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium to play Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, April 03. Rishabh Pant and his side won their first game of the tournament by beating Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, while KKR won both their games so far, and are placed second on the IPL 2024 Points Table.

Shreyas Iyer’s side had walloped Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their own home ground to gain an easy win. This was KKR’s second win in two games of IPL 2024 after starting their campaign with a win against SRH.

The Knight Riders are currently second in the table behind Rajasthan Royals. KKR so far are unbeaten in the tournament so far. Interestingly, Delhi Capitals were the team that Shreyas Iyer started his IPL career with. The team famously reached the IPL finals in 2020 under his leadership before losing to Mumbai Indians.

Openers: Phil Salt and Sunil Narine

The return of Gautam Gambhir to KKR as a mentor has seen Sunil Narine get sent back to open the innings. During the captaincy of Gambhir, the West Indian star did a lot of damage as the opener. Against RCB, Sunil Narine scored a quick 47 to help his team get a good start.

Originally not picked during the IPL 2024 Auctions, Phil Salt was perplexed after the snub. The Englishman scored a truckload of runs and was soon called up as a replacement for Jason Roy. In the two games so far this year, Phil Salt has given KKR great starts with his aggressive approach at the top.

Middle-order: Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Rinku Singh

KKR’s win over RCB also saw Venkatesh Iyer return to form. The 29-year-old scored a brilliant half-century to help his side win the contest to maintain a healthy run-rate. Skipper Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, eased himself with the bat and found some form during the win at Chinnaswamy. The next few games are important for the Kolkata leader in order to be in contention for the T20 Cricket World Cup in June.

Rinku Singh hasn’t had to do a lot with the bat this season of IPL 2024. The 26-year-old though will be itching to go out and score some big runs to keep his Midas touch with the bat going. Young Angkrish Raghuvanshi will be keen to show what he is capable of with the bat. The youngster has the reputation of being a big hitting batter, and he will be looking forward to making his batting debut for KKR.

All-rounders: Ramandeep Singh and Andre Russell

The move to KKR seems to be working for Ramandeep Singh, as the all-rounder has settled into the team nicely. On his debut for his new side, Ramandeep Singh struck a 17-ball 35 against SRH that changed the course of the game.

Andre Russell seems to have found a second win after years of inconsistent performances. The veteran All-rounder has been pivotal with the bat and ball for KKR this year. The 35-year-old has also found his big-hitting touch back to fill the fans with delight.

Bowlers: Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana, and Varun Chakravarthy

Mitchell Starc, the costliest player in the history of IPL, is feeling the pressure of the huge price tag. The Aussie pacer has played two games so far this season and conceded 100 runs in eight overs and is yet to pick a wicket. His slow start notwithstanding, Starc is a quality bowler with years of experience behind him, and thus, can turn the game on its head at will. 

Varun Chakravarthy hasn’t got off to a great start during the IPL 2024 season. The 32-year-old has just picked a wicket in the two games and hasn’t looked in great rhythm so far. Meanwhile, young pace sensation Harshit Rana has been the find of the season so far for Kolkata. The pacer has picked five wickets in the couple of outings he has had so far.
