India will be locking horns with Bangladesh in their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, November 2. The Indian team would be hoping to strengthen their semi-final hopes with a win over their Asian rivals who have been inconsistent so far.
The Men in Blue suffered their first defeat of this tournament against South Africa by five wickets in the final over and they would now be aiming to win their remaining Super 12 fixtures to qualify for the last four. The bowling needs to come good for India especially the spin department where veteran Ravichandran Ashwin ended up bowling an expensive 18th over which eventually cost them the game.
Meanwhile, the Indian team might be making a forced change to their playing XI with Dinesh Karthik getting injured while keeping wickets against South Africa and should he be unable to recover in time, Rishabh Pant could don the gloves for this contest. Without further a do,
Here's a look at India's Playing XI against Bangladesh:
Openers: KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma (c)
No surprises here as head coach Rahul Dravid has backed KL Rahul to come good despite failing with the bat in the first three games registering scores of 4,9, and, 9 respectively. The Karnataka cricketer would now be hoping to finally make his bat do the talking against Bangladesh which is an important game for India.
Rohit Sharma has also blown hot and cold in this tournament. Barring a match-winning half-century against the Netherlands, he has not been able to make much of an impact after getting set and the Indian skipper now has a perfect opportunity to prove his mettle against Bangladesh.
Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik/Rishabh Pant
Virat Kohli had an off day against South Africa where he could only manage 12 runs. However, he has so far scored back-to-back 50s against arch-rivals Pakistan and the Netherlands. Virat became the first Indian to amass 1,000 runs in T20 World Cup history, and now has a wonderful opportunity to dethrone Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav flopped against Pakistan, but since then has been outstanding on the 22 yards with consecutive half-centuries against the Dutch and the Proteas. In fact, he was India's savior with the bat as they lost half their side with hardly anything on the board. Yadav scored an impactful 68 runs off 40 balls which helped the Men in Blue in posting a respectable total of 133/9.
Dinesh Karthik has been an athletic keeper so far, but has failed to live up to the reputation as a batter. He landed awkwardly while attempting a catch against South Africa and had to leave the field in pain as Rishabh Pant carried out wicketkeeping duties. Should the Tamil Nadu stumper not regain full fitness, then Pant would be donning the gloves against Bangladesh.
All-Rounders: Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin
Hardik Pandya scored a match-winning 40 against Pakistan in the tournament opener, but walked back for just two runs against his name in the last game against South Africa. Nonetheless, Pandya has been consistent in the wickets column and has so far picked up four wickets.
Ravichandran Ashwin has the ability to hit big shots lower down the order and contribute some valuable runs for the Indian team. While Ashwin picked up the wicket of Tristan Stubbs, he could have had Aiden Markram as well had Virat Kohli not dropped a sitter at the deep. The veteran offie was very expensive conceding 43 runs from his four overs at an economy of 10.8.
Bowlers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has brilliantly succeeded in making the ball do the talking in Australian conditions. He has three wickets so far. Kumar might have gone wicketless in the last game, but he was economical giving away just 21 runs from is 3.4 overs at an economy of 5.7.
Mohammed Shami who is Jasprit Bumrah's replacement for this tournament has regularly featured in the wickets column and has picked up wickets in all three games. Apart from that, he has also been an economical bowler.
Yuzvendra Chahal could be drafted into the Indian playing XI as a backup spinner to bolster the spin department with veteran R Ashwin leaking runs at crucial junctures.
Arshdeep Singh has also been showing consistency with the ball in hand and has registered seven scalps to his name in the first three matches including a match-winning three-wicket haul against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Here's India's Predicted XI against Bangladesh:
KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik/Rishabh Pant (wk), Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami
