Delhi Capitals were handed their second defeat of the Women’s Premier League in their last fixture against Gujarat Giants as they lost by 11 runs. Batting first Gujarat posted 147/4 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of half-centuries from Laura Wolvaardt (57 off 45) and Ashleigh Gardner (51* off 33).

In reply, Delhi were bundled out for 136 in 18.4 overs with Marizanne Kapp top scoring with 36 off 29 balls. Despite the defeat, Delhi are qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament having four wins in six matches. Their next game is against the table-toppers Mumbai Indians on Monday, March 20 at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Delhi have eight points to their name with two matches remaining in the league stage, while Mumbai have ten points with the same number of matches left. Delhi will look to beat Mumbai by a huge margin to get to have a chance to finish at the top of the points table and get a direct entry into the finals. To do that, they will once again have to field a strong playing XI to beat the table toppers.

However, the Australian star has been dethroned from the top position with Sophie Devine taking her place. Devine is 27 runs ahead of Lanning who has 239 runs to her name in six innings. The Delhi captain will be eager to return to the top of the table with another classy knock against Mumbai.
