The Indian Premier League (IPL) certainly opened its gates for the young players to exhibit their talent and gain much experience by rubbing shoulders with the best in the business. Although Bangladesh has seen its performance graph on a rising trajectory, they have fallen short in crunch moments due to inconsistencies. This has turned out to be the reason of IPL franchises not venting their trust on their players.

Until the 2022 season, only six Bangladeshi players have been picked to play in the IPL. The likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman have been quite successful for different franchises. The left-handed batter Tamim Iqbal marked his presence in the squads last decade, but could not get a chance to feature in any game. Here are the other three players, who could not do justice to their talent in a handful of IPL games.

1. Mohammad Ashraful

The right-handed batter gained superstar status in Bangladesh cricket, due to his ability to perform for the team in crunch moments. He is the youngest player to hit a century on his Test debut and starred in Bangladesh’s only ODI win against Australia with a knock of 100.

With his consistent performances for the national team, Ashraful secured a bid of $75,000 in the IPL 2009 auction from Mumbai Indians. He then featured in his only IPL game for MI against Delhi Daredevils, which was the 55th match of the season at Centurion.

Ashraful returned with a knock of 2 off 10 balls, before getting dismissed by Pradeep Sangwan. The loss to MI paved his exit from the Playing XI, and he never played in the tournament again.
