Mumbai Indians had a great showing at the player auction for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction. They formed a formidable squad, consisting of many proven performers of the T20 circuit. 

The Mumbai franchise reaped dividends as they had a brilliant start to the season, registering a comprehensive win against Gujarat Giants by 143 runs in the tournament opener. Harmanpreet Kaur is a giant of a player in world cricket. She has annihilated opposition bowlers with her marauding bat and made the international arena her happy hunting ground. The 33-year-old has featured in 151 T20Is and amassed 3058 runs at an average of 28.05.

Moreover, Harmanpreet is an inspirational captain and has led the Women in Blue in spectacular fashion. With the Punjab-born at the helm, India won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Further, the veteran cricketer is the most successful captain in the Women’s T20 Challenge having led the Supernovas to three championships in four seasons. 

Harmanpreet displayed her might in the inaugural match of the ongoing WPL match against Gujarat Giants. She played a blistering knock of 65 runs off 30 balls to propel Mumbai to the daunting score of 207 runs on the board Also, she displayed her leadership credentials and shepherded the team to perfection to bundle the opposition for 64 runs. In the presence of a captain who is known to lead from the front, Mumbai Indians are a force to be reckoned with in the league.
