Bangladesh cricket team in the last few years has progressed a lot due to the hard work and dedication of its players. By delivering impressive performances in the limited-over formats of the game in recent times, they are trying to be competitive against giants like India, Australia, England, South Africa, and New Zealand.

The team also grabbed a lot of attention by beating India, England, and South Africa in the World Cups. But in the last few years, some Bangladesh players have also attracted a lot of criticism from supporters of the game as they have somehow managed to land into trouble.

Many Bangladesh players have come under the scanner several times for the wrong reasons. In 2021, Shakib Al Hasan, who is one of the most reputed and experienced players of Bangladesh, set an unprecedented example of misbehaviour by disrespecting an on-field umpire in a Dhaka Premier League game.

Shakib is not the only one from Bangladesh who has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, there are numerous other players who have stirred a lot of controversy by landing into troubled waters over the years.

5. Sabbir Rahman slapgate incident

In 2020, Sabbir Rahman got into a controversy by getting involved in a brawl with a cleaner at the Rajshahi City Corporation. Some locals of Rajshahi who witnessed the incident said that Sabbir and the cleaner got engaged in a heated argument and which resulted in Rahman slapping the cleaner.

Later, Rahman explained that there was only a mild argument between him and the cleaner. On the rumours of him hitting the man, he denied the claims and asserted that it has been blown out of proportion.

It was not the first time that the right-handed batter was in news for unsavory reasons. In 2016, he was penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and was fined 20 per cent of his match fees for his over-animated celebration against Jos Buttler in an ODI game.

While in 2018, he was also stripped of his Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) contract after thrashing a fan in a first-class match in Rajshahi. Going through these incidents, it can be said that Rahman is accustomed to getting into controversies.
