Ben Stokes carved his name into the record books during the fourth Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India, as he became only the fifth skipper in Test history to attain the distinguished double of scoring a ton and picking up a five-wicket haul in the same Test.

As far as England cricket is concerned, Stokes became only the fourth cricketer to attain the landmark after Ian Botham (5 times), Tony Greig (once), and Gus Atkinson (once). It was a memorable performance from the English red-ball skipper in Manchester with ball (5/72) and then bat (141 off 198).

Needless to say, scoring a ton and bagging a five-wicket haul in the same Test is a remarkable achievement, something which has been achieved only five times by captains.

5. Denis Atkinson vs Australia - 219 and 5/56 (Bridgetown, 1955)

Australia had amassed a massive 668 in the first innings of the game. Atkinson had toiled across more than two days to send down 48 overs for figures of 2/108. He came out to bat with West Indies having lost their fifth wicket for 143. Together with wicketkeeper-batter Clairmonte Depeiaza (122), he grinded it out to score his first double-ton.

He had never scored a century till that point. Atkinson returned with much better figures than in the first innings. Bowling 36.2 overs, he conceded only 56 runs while picking up a five-wicket haul to dismiss the opponents for 249.

The match ended in draw after West Indies ended on 234/6 at stumps on the final day. The pair of Atkinson and Depeiaza, who had put up the massive stand in their team's first innings, remained unbeaten at the end in the second innings.
