The Asia Cup 2023 tournament ended with a bang with India becoming champions for a record eighth time. The Rohit Sharma-led side decimated Sri Lanka in the final in Colombo. The co-hosts were bundled out for 50 runs, which India chased down in 6.1 overs to win by 10 wickets.
The tournament featured 6 teams, but only four- India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka made it into the Super 4s stage. Given that a part of the tournament was played in Pakistan and the rest in Sri Lanka, the batters had much to rejoice. The batters who enjoyed in the middle were the openers as teams opted to bat first if they won the toss.
Therefore, here are the three best openers who made the most runs and impressed their fans in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023.
Here is a ranking of the top 3 openers in the Asia Cup 2023:
3. Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Bangladesh experimented by having Mehidy Hasan Miraz open the innings with Mohammad Naim in three of the five innings he batted in Asia Cup 2023. This was because Tamim Iqbal was out with injury and Litton Das had fallen ill and joined the side in Sri Lanka late. This meant the spin all-rounder got an opportunity to showcase his batting at the start.
He took full advantage of the powerplay overs when he opened and scored his second century in ODIs. Hasan made 112* against Afghanistan in Lahore, hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes in his knock. Then against Sri Lanka, he made 28 runs with 4 sixes. And in his third innings as an opener, against Pakistan, Mehidy was out on the first ball he faced. In total, Mehidy made 158 runs in 5 matches at an average of 39.50.
