Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made their first appearance in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and delivered an impressive show in the group stage. With nine victories and five losses in 14 games, KL Rahul and Co. played some excellent cricket to advance to the playoffs.
However, the franchise’s campaign ended without winning the title after losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
In November 2022, the franchise released names such as Jason Holder, Manish Pandey, Evin Lewis, and Andrew Tye to free up some money in their purse. Later at the mini-auction 2023, they splurged INR 16 crore on the West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran to strengthen their team.
But there are some players in the KL Rahul-led side who might not get to play during the entirety of the 2023 season due to the availability of some big names in the LSG camp.
Here are 5 players who might be kept away from LSG's playing XI during the 2023 edition:
5. Karan Sharma
Lucknow Super Giants picked the Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Karan Sharma at the 2022 mega auction. Relying on his all round skills, the franchise got him at his base price of INR 20 lakh. However, he got only one game in the tournament but couldn’t do much with his bat.
The youngster made his debut in the league in the 57th game of the 2022 season. Playing against Gujarat Titans (GT), he was sent to bat at number four as the side was trying to achieve the target of 145. However, he left the team in trouble getting dismissed at four. After that game, he didn’t get a chance to play the remaining matches.
Before the mini-auction 2023, he made it to the retention list of the franchise, but in the 2023 edition, he might not get a game. In the upcoming tournament, the franchise are likely to prefer going in with Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran, and Marcus Stoinis who are considered more reliable to strengthen the middle order.
