Kyle Jamieson has been a proven performer in the international circuit. In Test cricket he has proved his mettle. The 28-year-old has claimed 72 scalps in 16 Test matches at an average of 19.45. He has fared well in the ODIs too, picking up 11 wickets in only eight games at a decent economy of 4.31.

Chennai Super Kings, in a bid to bolster their bowling attack, signed Jamieson at the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2023 auction for INR 1 crore. Sadly, the ace pacer is unlikely to take part in the coming season due to his recurring back injury.

Jamieson was out of action due to a back injury since June, hoping for a comeback to international cricket in the ongoing two-match-Test series against England. However, it was not meant to be. He will be undergoing back surgery and, as a consequence, would be sidelined for about four months. Therefore, the Kiwi pacer would not be seen in CSK colours in the 16th IPL edition.

The Chennai franchise would now need to ponder over his replacement. There are some top-drawer players who might be on the radar of MS Dhoni & Co. to fill in Jamieson’s shoes.

Here are five players who can replace Kyle Jamieson in CSK

5. Gerald Coetzee

Gerald Coetzee is an up-and-coming talent in South Africa’s cricketing circles. He has featured in 12 List-A matches and bagged 20 wickets at an economy of 5.20. Talking about the shortest format, the 22-year-old has picked up 54 scalps in 38 matches at an economy of 7.83.

CSK’s SA20-owned franchise, Joburg Super Kings liked what they saw in the youngster and drafted him into their side for the inaugural season of South Africa’s T20 League. Coetzee repaid the faith of the franchise and wreaked havoc with the ball in the T20 extravaganza.

The right-arm pacer featured in nine games in the tournament and bagged 17 wickets at an economy of 8.07. Given Coetzee was sensational in SA20 2023, the Chennai franchise could look to add him to their arsenal for the upcoming IPL edition.
