Mumbai Indians (MI) will be up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the upcoming game in the IPL 2024. Both teams come into the clash after facing a close loss in their respective season openers. While MI lost to GT by six runs, SRH lost to KKR by just four runs. For Mumbai to succeed against the Pat Cummins-led side, Rohit Sharma will play a key role. The Mumbai batter has been in a great form of late across all formats of the game. While his numbers do not suggest so, he has been a vital cog for the five-time champions over the years.

Taking the role of playing cameos at the top to make the most of the powerplay overs, the attacking cricketer is someone who bats with intent to put pressure on the opponents. His approach is risky but rewarding. It worked well for India in the big tournaments like the ODI World Cup 2023 and the Asia Cup. In 2023, Sharma gave blazing starts with the bat for MI. It meant that they were well ahead of their opponents more often than not.

In the first match of MI in the IPL 2024, the opener played a good knock despite his team ending on the losing side. He scored 43(29) before getting dismissed by R Sai Kishore. With captaincy not being his role, the senior batter would be aiming to perform as a pure opener. He has played some good innings against SRH in the past. For MI to win the match against SRH, he needs to be at his best. It is time to look at how good he has been against SRH in the history of the league.

Rohit Sharma's IPL stats against SRH in History:

The 36-year-old has played 21 matches against SRH. The star batter has scored 409 runs against the 2016 champions at an average of 22.72, at a batting strike rate of 130.25, including two fifty plus scores. The right-handed batter has managed to score 12.44 percent of his team's runs while batting against the Hyderabad-based franchise. His best score against the franchise is 67 which came back in 2017, when MI won their third title.

Total Matches Played 21

Memorable performances vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

In 2017, Rohit registered his best score against SRH. The MI legend batted very well on a slow track where his teammates struggled to score runs. Coming in at number 4, he saw his team collapse at the other end. Only Parthiv Patel gave any sort of support, who perished after scoring 23(17). On a slow wicket, the experienced campaigner scored 67 runs in 45 balls, which included six fours and two sixes. MI lost the match, but the ace batter was impressive.

In his most recent match against SRH, Sharma was brilliant. It was a must-win game for MI to qualify for the Playoffs for the 2023 edition. The Sunrisers posted a positive total of 200 runs on the board. In an evening game, it was not easy to chase. MI needed a brisk start, which was exactly what Sharma gave. Losing Ishan Kishan early, Sharma batted well alongside Cameron Green. The then 35-year-old scored 56 off just 37 balls, while Green went on to smash a terrific ton. Courtesy of the duo's blitzkrieg, Mumbai pulled off victory in a do-or-die game.

Key Battles for Rohit Sharma vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Bhuvneshwar Kumar — Rohit has been one of the batters to have countered Bhuvneshwar Kumar very well. Facing Bhuvi, Sharma has an excellent record. Rohit has faced Kumar in 58 balls in the league and managed to score 76 runs at a terrific batting average of 76.00, at a good batting strike rate of 131.00, including four sixes and seven fours. The swing king, who has a knack of giving early breakthroughs, has dismissed Rohit only once in IPL.

Pat Cummins — It has been a mixed bag for both the world-class cricketers in the IPL. Both the players have faced each in the league in three instances. In 2017, Rohit faced two balls and scored three runs without getting dismissed. In 2020, he had an upper hand over the Australian as he scored 19 runs in 15 balls on a slow wicket. In 2021, Pat finally dismissed Rohit for the first time in the league. In 2024, both the players are arguably in their best form, and thus, a mouthwatering contest awaits fans when these two collide.
