The Indian team will tour the Caribbean islands this month for a couple of Tests, three One-Day Internationals, and five T20 Internationals (T20Is) against the West Indies. Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced squads for the Tests and ODIs, which included a mix of veterans and new faces.

Recently, former India pacer Ajit Agarakar was appointed as BCCI’s chief selector. Taking up the post, he and his team announced India’s squad for five T20Is against the Windies scheduled next month. In the T20I side, young and fresh faces have got the responsibility to take on the hosts under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.

India opener Shubman Gill will get the responsibility to provide fierce starts to the team. This year, he looked extraordinary with his bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Notching up 890 runs with three tons and four half-centuries in 17 matches at a strike rate of 157.80, he became the Orange Cap winner in the marquee T20 league.

This year, Gill made his T20I debut in the home series against Sri Lanka. So far, he has played six games, in which he scored 202 runs at a strike rate of 165.67. In the New Zealand T20I series played in January-February, he also ended up becoming the leading run-scorer in the competition, scoring 144 runs in three matches at a sensational strike rate of 184.61.

The dashing opener also smashed a scintillating ton against the Kiwis in the third match at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. In the upcoming series, he will look to continue his form and take the Windies' bowling unit to the cleaners with his aggressive batting attitude.
