The player auction for the inaugural season of the much-awaited Women’s Premier League culminated on February 13. The marquee event in Mumbai lived up to all its hype as T20 stars from around the globe went under the hammer, as a result of which cricket enthusiasts had hearts in their mouths anticipating that their favourite stars were picked up.
Each of the five franchises entered the WPL 2023 auction with INR 12 crore in their kitty. They did not shy away from spending big with the aim to sign a player of their liking. However, there were certain top-drawer cricketers who garnered the attention of many teams in the bidding arena.
With the WPL schedule out and the T20 extravaganza all set to kick-start on March 4, let us take a look at the players on whom most teams placed bids at the recently culminated auction.
6. Nat Sciver-Brunt
Nat Sciver-Brunt has been a bankable name in the international arena. She has aggregated 3009 runs in 94 ODIs and bagged 65 wickets at an economy of 4.46. Talking about the shortest format, she has piled on 2135 runs in 107 games and claimed 79 scalps at an economy of 6.45.
When Sciver’s turn arrived at the auction, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriorz were interested in roping her into their sides. In the end, Mumbai prevailed, signing her for a staggering sum of INR 3.2 crore.
