The player auction for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League took place on February 13 in Mumbai. 449 cricketers featured at the marquee event but with a squad limit of 18 players, only 87 were able to fetch WPL contracts.  Smriti Mandhana took home a hefty sum of INR 3.4 crore and became the most expensive player of the WPL 2023.

It was the 16th player auction for Delhi Capitals and they brought their experience into play to assemble a strong 18-member squad for the forthcoming season of the women's league. The Delhi franchise is studded with top-quality players and they have the potential to go all the way in WPL 2023. Let us look at what DC’s best starting XI looks like.

Here is the best starting XI of Delhi Capitals

1. Shafali Verma

Shafali Verma has taken the international arena by storm from the time she made her international debut. She has taken the attack to the opposition right from the get-go and provided India with brisk starts. On her day, the 19-year-old has even taken the best of bowlers to the cleaners.

Shafali has made 52 appearances for the Women in Blue in the shortest format and scored 1292 runs at a strike rate of 134.16. When it comes to the ODIs, the flamboyant cricketer has scored 531 runs in 21 matches at a strike rate of 83.62. Besides her batting prowess, she is quite handy with her off-spin.

Shafali plays an aggressive style of cricket and her addition adds flare to the batting line-up. Also, the youngster’s bowling skill is an added bonus. Thus, Delhi went all guns blazing to sign her at the auction and eventually acquired her for INR 2 crore.
