Cricket Association of Puducherry comes forward to offer its dormitories for COVID-19 patients

The proliferation of COVID-19 has taken the entire world by storm. And, in the wake of the World Health Organisation-recognized pandemic Coronavirus COVID-19, the Cricket Association of Puducherry (CAP) has come forward to offer the dormitories in its cricket academy for the accommodation and fruitful treatment of patients infected with the Coronavirus.

Former President of the Cricket Association of Puducherry and state cricket nominee for BCCI meetings, P Damodaran wrote a letter to Lt. Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi, where he revealed their desire of offering dormitories for the infected patients.

Damodaran revealed that CAP had built dormitories for the comfortable stay of 30 cricketers in Tutipet campus in Pondicherry. And, since the cricketing activities have come to a screeching halt thanks to the threat of COVID-19, the same can be availed by the corona infected patients.

”We had built a dormitory for two cricket teams to stay comfortably i.e. 30 cricketers and dining, kitchen, etc in our cricket campus in Tutipet, Pondicherry. We stopped cricketing activities due to the outbreak of coronavirus. We can offer these facilities to house up to 30 corona infected patients if need be with necessary medical tie-up through Laxmi Medical College, Pondicherry,” Damodaran stated as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Puducherry has just registered one case of coronavirus 

Meanwhile, all cricketing activities around the world have been either cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. Cricket’s marquee event- outside the International arena- the Indian Premier League (IPL) has also landed in hot waters. The 13th edition of the cash-rich league was due to start from March 29th with defending champions Mumbai Indians locking horns against three-time winners and last seasons’ runner-up Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

But the steadily escalating situation meant that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was forced to postpone it till April 15th. But, in the current context, even April 15 isn’t looking possible for the tournament to be staged. The BCCI is set to take the final decision on holding this years’ edition when it meets the stakeholders via video conference on March 24.
