Cricket continues to be the most loved sport in India

Team India was on a winning spree in 2017 much to the joy of their die-hard fans and didn’t lose any bilateral series during the grand home season. They also reached the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy in June only to lose it against the arch-rivals Pakistan. The year also saw the records created and broken by the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, all these happenings have led to Indian Premier League and T20 cricket becoming the most searched entities on Google search engine this year.

The year started with the ODI leg of the England tour and also with the bad news of MS Dhoni resigning from captaincy and handing over the baton to Kohli. They managed to defeat the poms in both ODI and T20I series after which Australia pushed India to the corner and fought bravely in the four-match Test series. But the number 1 side in the world wasn’t perturbed and won the closely contested series. They also brushed aside them in the limited overs after which they blanked Sri Lanka and Windies in their own den across formats.

IPL most searched on Google

Indian Premier League (IPL) is the cricket festival played every year in India and the superstars across the world participate in it. The lucrative league brings a lot of money with it which attracts some of the brutal hitters of the cricket ball. According to the statistics from Google, IPL and the other T20 tournaments are the most searched sporting events in 2017. Even ICC Champions Trophy makes it to the top of the lists, the event which Pakistan won beating India in the finals.

The cash-rich league has also managed to climb to the second position as far as the overall trending events in the country are concerned. IPL is only second to the blockbuster film Baahubali 2 on the charts and again tops the list when only the news in India is taken into consideration. Apart from IPL, the Indian sports fans have also searched a lot regarding the Tennis tournaments like Wimbledon and US Open.
