At Mumbai’s local suburban railway station, Elphinstone, at least 22 people have been killed and over 30 seriously injured in a stampede that broke out at a narrow foot overbridge at the local train station in Mumbai after heavy rain this morning.

Live all the citizens, the Indian cricket fraternity was left shocked too after the horrifying stampede incident at Elphinstone. India and Mumbai cricketer Rohit Sharma was the first one to take to Twitter to express his feelings on the mishap. Virender Sehwag was next to convey his thoughts in a series of tweets.

Sharma wrote, “Heartbreaking to see what happened in Mumbai earlier today.” Former cricketers VVS Laxman and Mohammad Kaif were also among those to express sorrow on the Elphinstone Road station incident on the day before Dussehra.

Sehwag, in his series of tweets, emphasized the need to work on facilities in the financial capital of the country, saying, “Human life is unfortunately the cheapest thing. Such a heart wrenching incident, innocent people dying even after paying taxes #Elphinstone.”

He also called for better security measures for thousands who face the risks associated with travelling in the Mumbai local train services. “In the city of dreams, people travel with such high risks. Before anything else, citizens security is the need of the hour, long been ignored,” (sic) he said.
