Time to call it a night!
Well, what a start to the World Cup. New Zealand dominated and sealed an emphatic nine-wicket victory against a struggling England. They got the much-needed two points without having the likes of Kane Williamson and Tim Southee and that should boost the confidence of the Black Caps.
Meanwhile, it's time to say bye and we will catch up with you guys tomorrow for the match between Pakistan and Netherlands. Goodnight!
Mohammad Kaif opens up on Conway-Rachin partnership!
Conway and Rachin proved that in sport you need to be cold and calculated to take revenge. NZ also showed you can never write them off in a World Cup game.#ENGvNZ #icccricketworldcup2023 pic.twitter.com/iNP2gqv9Gk

Rachin Ravindra adjudged POTM!
"Great to have a great day. Boys bowled and fielded well to restrict them to 280. Luckily I had Devon out there to show me how to do it. (I am) Very very close with Devon. Special to finish it off with him. 4-5 years ago, we all knew Devon would become the player he is. Above all he's a great guy. It was yesterday (because of) the thing (niggle) with Lockie (when did he know he'll bat at three?). Good to get the opportunity. We'll see what happens. I'm actually quite a good sleeper luckily. There was some swing, but the surface was really good to bat on," Rachin Ravindra said.
Winning skipper Tom Latham said:
"It's a fantastic performance. Fantastic partnership. Fantastic effort with the ball to restrict them to 280 which is below par. Pretty good build-up. We have played in these conditions in the last year or so. Likes of two seamers did a fantastic job. We got wickets at crucial times, to restrict them to 280 odd from the situation they were in was fantastic. The shots they played was fantastic, certainly wasn't the plan when they went out. Both must have felt really good when they played shots," Latham said.
Losing skipper Jos Buttler said:
"Disappointing day, outplayed by New Zealand, tough to take that defeat. One loss, still a long tournament. Lot of guys in our team have played a lot of cricket. We have beaten teams this way before and we have been beaten like this before as well. Tough to build any pressure with the start they got. We lacked being clinical with our executions. Right shots weren't quite executed. We will keep it positive, can't be too defensive but we weren't clinical in shot selection and execution. Margin for error was very less on that pitch. The two guys played exceptionally well, fantastic partnership we were well beaten. Skidded on even better under lights, that's why we wanted to bowl as well. I thought he is back to his old self. Don't think there is any question about Joe. He's a run-maker in any format he plays. We will wait and see. He is working hard with the physio," Buttler mentioned.

Hello all, welcome to our coverage of England versus New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 World Cup final. The 2023 event starts from tomorrow in Ahmedabad, as both sides take the centre stage at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the iconic season opener of the ODI World Cup 2023.
England have been in sensational form as of late as they recently defeated New Zealand in a four-match ODI series. As the season opener of the World Cup is upon us, it could be interesting to see how both sides fare against each other as New Zealand hope for a different result against the defending champions.
Ahead of the tournament, New Zealand participated in two World Cup warm-up games. The side took on Pakistan and South Africa in preparation for the competition, and to help their confidence, the Black Caps emerged victorious in both games. They took on Pakistan and South Africa and defeated Pakistan by five and got the victory against South Africa by seven runs through the DLS method.
England come off positive results in warm up games as well
On the other hand, England took on India and Bangladesh in two warm-up games. The game against India was washed out and abandoned, but the defending champions won in a close encounter by four wickets through the DLS method against Bangladesh.
With both sides done with the warm-up games, it could be interesting to see how they take on each other and whether New Zealand are able to forget the horrors of the 2019 clash, and put in a better performance and emerge victorious against the defending champions.
