After winning four consecutive matches in the ongoing Big Bash League, defending champions Perth Scorchers (SCO) suffered a defeat at the hands of Sydney Thunder in their previous match. Meanwhile, their rival on January 7, Brisbane Heat (HEA) are having a disaster of a season as the Jimmy Peirson-led side are currently second last on the points table, having managed to win only two of their seven games.

Now, after a brilliant start from the Brisbane batters in their last game against the Sixers, the match unfortuanately had to be called off due to rain. However, if the team can play with the same momentum, Scorchers will be under a lot of pressure as players like Josh Brown and Nathan McSweeney are in terrific form at the moment. They are playing an aggressive brand of cricket and that can help the team return to the top half of the points table.

When it comes to Perth Scorchers, the side will miss the services of Jhye Richardson for at least two to three weeks after the pacer suffered a hamstring injury in the last match. In his absence, speedster Lance Morris may return to the squad, as he is released by Australia management after the cricketer failed to make it into the playing XI in Australia’s third Test against South Africa at SCG.

Other than that, Scorchers will look forward to improving their batting in the upcoming match. Other than skipper Ashton Turner, none of them could contribute significantly to the team in the previous match and that needs to change as BBL is heading towards the business end of the season. When it comes to their bowling, Richardson’s gap will be a massive one to fill.
