Just a day after the exhibition match between the India Maharajas and the World Giants, the India Capitals will be locking horns with the Gujarat Giants in the first game of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2022 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, September 17. Both teams would be hoping to kick off their campaign with a win under their belt.
The India Capitals will be led by former India left-handed batter Gautam Gambhir and the team consists of some of the big names in world cricket including the likes of Liam Plunkett, Mashrafe Mortaza, Asghar Afghan, Mitchell Johnson, Jacques Kallis, etc.
The Gujarat Giants on the other hand will be captained by Gambhir’s former India opening batting partner Virender Sehwag and the squad looks both promising as well as well-balanced with the inclusions of the Windies hard-hitting duo of Chris Gayle and Lendl Simmons along with the spin icons Graeme Swann and Ajantha Mendis to name a few.
Gujarat also have a proven match-winner in former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori who can bamboozle any batting line-up with his left-arm spin and score some valuable runs lower down the order.
Venue: Eden Garden, Kolkata
Date & Time: September 17, 7:30 PM IST
Live Streaming: Star Sports Network, Disney + Hotstar
Both teams have some promising spinners in their arsenal and the wicket at the Eden Gardens might provide them with a perfect opportunity to provide vital breakthroughs. The par score on this ground is not expected to be over 180 and therefore, the captain winning the toss will be looking to bowl first.
Probable Playing XIs
Gautam Gambhir (C), Liam Plunkett, Pravin Tambe, Asghar Afghan, Mitchell Johnson, Ross Taylor, Jacques Kallis, Mashrafe Murtaja, Pankaj Singh, Rajat Bhatia, Ravi Bopara
Virender Sehwag (C), Chris Gayle, Parthiv Patel, Manvinder Bisla, Lendl Simmons, Mitchell McClenaghan, Stuart Binny, Ajantha Mendis, Daniel Vettori, Joginder Sharma, Graeme Swann
Probable Top Performers
Probable best batter of the match:
Chris Gayle needs no introduction whatsoever. He has the ability to play match-defining knocks with his whirlwind batting performances and has made a tremendous impact while playing franchise leagues across the globe. This tournament will be a very good opportunity for the ‘Universe Boss’ as he eyes a comeback in IPL 2023. The southpaw might be turning 43 next week, but he still has enough firepower to make his bat do the talking.
Probable best bowler of the match:
Ajantha Mendis was forced to take an early retirement from international cricket owing to injury concerns, but he was almost unplayable in his prime and bamboozled the best batters in the business with his carrom ball and single-handedly won a few matches for Sri Lanka with his mystery spin. Mendis would be hoping to puzzle the opposition batters in the upcoming LLC and aim to top the charts as far as the wickets column is concerned.
