Abhishek Sharma is a part of India A's squad for the second and third 50-over games against Australia A, which will be played on October 3 and 5, respectively, in Kanpur. He comes into the series after winning the Player of the Tournament award in the 2025 Asia Cup, where India emerged victorious.

After helping India lift a record-extending ninth Asia Cup title, Abhishek attended his sister Komal Sharma's pre-wedding function in Ludhiana. During the event, the southpaw was seen dancing his heart out alongside mentor Yuvraj Singh. Komal's wedding is scheduled on Friday, October 3. However, this clashes with India A's second 50-over clash against Australia A.

Abhishek, who has been a force to reckon with in T20I cricket, is yet to make his debut in ODIs. An impressive performance against Australia A could help in give the selectors a timely reminder about his credentials in the 50-over format. Understanding the importance of the two upcoming games, Abhishek decided to give his sister's wedding a miss and made himself available for selection to the playing XI.

The 25-year-old has played 61 List A games, amassing 2014 runs at an average of 35.33 and a strike rate of 99.21. Abhishek has eight fifties and four centuries to his name. The Punjab star has also accounted for 38 wickets in the format, including best figures of 4/56.

In the Asia Cup, Abhishek provided India some exhilarating starts in all the games except the final. He finished with 314 runs in seven innings at an average of 44.86 and a strike rate of 200. Abhishek played with remarkable consistency during the tournament, not curbing his aggressive instincts even after India lost quick wickets in some matches.

India's forthcoming ODI assignment is a three-match series against Australia later this month. Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney are going to host the three games on October 19, 23, and 25, respectively. A solid performance against Australia A could keep Abhishek in contention for a maiden ODI call-up.
