Afghanistan Cricket Board name Nicholas Lee as their new strength and conditioning Trainer

In a major development for the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the board recently announced the appointment of Nicholas Trevor Lee as the new Strength and Conditioning Trainer for the Afghanistan National Team. Lee is set to join the team on February 23 as the side gears up for the upcoming all-format home series against Ireland.

A former batter for Kent, Lee has played 13 first-class matches in his career, scoring 490 runs at an average of 30.62, with three half-centuries and a highest score of unbeaten 79*. Furthermore, he has also served as the Head of Physical Performance for the Bangladesh Cricket Board since March 2020. Prior to that, he also worked for three years with Sri Lanka as their strength and conditioning trainer, from October 2016 to February 2020. Afghanistan’s previous strength & conditioning trainer was occupied by Jason Douglas, who held the position for over nine years.

Afghanistan aim to clinch consolation win in third ODI against Sri Lanka

Talking of Afghanistan’s current ongoing assignments, the side is engaged in a multi-format series against Sri Lanka. After the only Test, Afghanistan lost the first two ODIs of the series and will now face off against the side in the third ODI at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, February 14. 

Both sides locked horns in the second ODI of the series on February 11 and the clash began with Sri Lanka batting first. The hosts put in a good performance with the bat. Kusal Mendis scored 61 runs, Asalanka amassed 97 runs as Sri Lanka posted a total of 308 runs in the first innings.

 As for Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai was the highest wicket-taker with three wickets to his name. Fazalhaq Farooqi, Noor Ahmad, and Qais Ahmad struck once as well. Aiming to chase down the target, Afghanistan succumbed to the pressure of Sri Lanka’s bowling attack. Getting bundled out for just 153 runs, Sri Lanka won the game by 155 runs and clinched the series.
