The Ashes 2023 continued its enthralling action on Day 3 of the second Test at Lord’s as Australia got a 91-run lead in the first innings. The Australian bowlers were once again all over England's batting unit as they bundled them out for 325 in the first innings. In reply, Australian openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner got their team off to a steady start for the second time during the game.

The duo added 63 runs for the first wicket and were looking set at the crease. Warner played an uncharacteristic knock of 25(76) and was carefully moving ahead in his innings. However, he was once again undone by Josh Tongue, who managed to trap him in front of the stumps to give his side their first success.

Tongue came around the wicket and struck Warner on his pads with a delivery swinging into him. Much to the batter’s dismay, on-field umpire Ahsan Raza raised his finger to signal him out. Unhappy with the decision, the Australian opener reviewed it straight away. However, no spike on ‘ultra edge’ and three reds on the ‘ball tracking’ drew curtains on Warner’s innings as he made his way back to the pavilion amid a deafening roar from the England fans.

Watch the dismissal here:

Earlier in the day, Australia continued with their short ball ploy and managed to get the remaining six wickets for just 47 runs in the first session. The carnage began with captain Ben Stokes edging one to slip on just the second delivery of the day.

With the captain back in the hut, his troop was also brought down to their knees with Harry Brook (50), Jonny Bairstow (16) and Ollie Robinson (9) all getting out playing attacking shots. Brook’s dismissal was the most bizarre one as he tried to whack Mitchell Starc over cover on a short ball, only to find Pat Cummins in the virtual inner ring.

As a result, England were bundled out for 325 in the first innings giving Australia a healthy lead of 91.
