Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes that it will not be an easy task to beat Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup and in the ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Recently, the Babar Azam-led side defeated Afghanistan 3-0 in the ODI series, and courtesy of the same, they have now become the number-one ranked team in the world and that shows the ability that the Men in Green possess.
Lauding them for being absolutely incredible in white-ball cricket, Ashwin mentioned that if Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan manage to remain consistent with their performances in the next three months, the team can prove to be extremely dangerous. He added that the team now has an enormous squad depth, which will help them in the coming times.
“If Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan consistently dish out performances with the bat, Pakistan will be one hell of a team heading into this Asia Cup and the World Cup. It will take some beating since Pakistan is an extraordinary team. It is all down to their (Pakistan’s) squad depth. Pakistan has invariably developed exceptional cricketers,” Ashwin mentioned on his YouTube channel.
They have always produced an incredible series of pacers: Ashwin
The 36-year-old further mentioned that Pakistan have always produced quality pacers as tape-ball cricket is really famous in the land. The likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf are in incredible form at the moment and Ashwin eventually acknowledged that their batting too has improved significantly in the recent past.
“Thanks to its tape-ball cricket, they have always produced an incredible series of pacers. Also, their batting has been superior during the late 90s and 2000s. But, the exposure they have got to various (T20) leagues has been the primary reason for their re-emergence in the previous five or six years. They also have the PSL. Additionally, in the recent BBL drafts, there were at least 60-70 Pakistan players,” he noted.
