Australia batter Matt Renshaw is eager to make a good impression against South Africa if he gets selected in the playing XI in Sydney. The Aussies lock horns with the visitors in the third and final Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from January 4. They have already taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series.

Renshaw got the call from the national side after injuries to speedster Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Cameron Green in the second Test in Melbourne. The 26-year-old stated that he would be delighted if he gets a chance to feature in the Sydney Test.

The batter last made an appearance for the red-ball team in 2018 against the same opposition. Renshaw further added that he is not thinking about the tour to India in February-March and is looking to make a good impression if he can make the playing XI for the third Test.

“I think just the Sydney Test for me, it’s a nice inclusion being included in the last Test of the summer before a couple of away tours. I had a couple of technical changes post that break (of five years), just trying to work on a few of things that I felt were struggling during the season, but I found it tough to change my technique during the season," he was quoted by Indian Express.

“As I know in cricket, I’ve learnt a lot that you can never count your chickens. So just keep trying to do what I can when I get into the group and make a good impression and help as much as I can if I’m not playing,” he added.

Meanwhile, with successive wins against England, West Indies and South Africa, the Aussies have nearly booked a spot in the World Test Championship summit clash. Along with them, team India too are in strong contention for a place in the finals of the global ICC event. Following the conclusion of the Test series against the Proteas, the Aussies will be up against India in February-March in a four-match series.
