AUS vs SA: David Warner equals Sachin Tendulkar's unique record after ending three-year Test century drought

Dynamic Australian opener David Warner finally succeeded in ending his three-year Test century drought as he breached the three-figure mark in the ongoing second game against South Africa at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday, December 27.

Warner, who is also making his 100th Test appearance has notched up his 25th ton in the format and made the occasion even more special by getting past 8000 runs in the longest format of the sport. Apart from these milestones, the southpaw has also succeeded in achieving yet another unique feat. 

David Warner has now equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record with a well-deserved century in his 100th Test appearance. 

David Warner achieves a new high post MCG Test ton

When Warner finally ended his agonizing Test century drought in Melbourne, he also ended up registering his 45th international century and is currently tied with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Even Sachin had scored 45 out of his 100 international tons during his illustrious career as an opener. As of now, Warner has 20 ODI and 25 Test tons to his name.

After registering a ton in the ongoing MCG Test, David Warner became only the 10th player to score a century in his 100th Test outing.

The other players who feature on this elite list include the likes of former Caribbean batting megastar Gordon Greenidge, England’s Colin Cowdrey, Pakistan batting legend Javed Miandad, ex-England wicketkeeper-batter Alec Stewart, England's Joe Root, former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, the South African duo of Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla and ex-Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting. 

Meanwhile, the southpaw also became only the second Australian to score a century in his 100th Test appearance. The first Aussie player to achieve this feat was Ricky Ponting who breached three figures against South Africa in 2006.

In fact, Ponting had scored twin centuries in his 100th red-ball appearance registering scores of 120 and 143.

Warner showed no signs of complacency after registering his century and went berserk against the fiery Proteas bowling attack to complete an outstanding double century. He retired hurt after reaching his double ton.
