Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. The sanction was imposed after he was found guilty of violating Article 2.2, which deals with the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground fixtures, or fittings during an international match.

A demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record, his first offence within a 24-month period. The incident took place in the 21st over of Pakistan’s innings when Babar, visibly frustrated after his dismissal, struck the stumps with his bat before walking off the field.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Rashid Riaz, along with third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi. Ali Naqvi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees recommended the sanction. Babar admitted the offence and accepted the penalty, meaning no formal hearing was required.

Under ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Despite the minor disciplinary setback, Babar played a crucial role in Pakistan’s series sweep over Sri Lanka. He finished as the highest run-scorer of the series, amassing 165 runs, which included his record-extending 20th ODI century.

With the ODI series completed, Pakistan now shift their focus to the upcoming T20I tri-series featuring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Pakistan will open their campaign against Zimbabwe on November 18, before taking on Sri Lanka on November 22. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with the final scheduled for November 29. Playing at home, Pakistan will be determined to build on their recent momentum and aim for yet another series win in front of their supporters.
