Babar Azam, Pakistan's ODI captain, added a new feather to his cap during the Super Four opener against Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 on September 6 at the Gaddafi Stadium. Notably, the home side showcased an outstanding display, outplaying Shakib Al Hasan and Co. by seven wickets.
Babar failed to make a huge impact during the game as he was dismissed for a paltry score of 17 runs off 22 deliveries. However, he achieved a remarkable feat, reaching the 2000-run mark as ODI captain in just 31 innings.
The 28-year-old became the fastest captain to reach this milestone, surpassing former India skipper Virat Kohli, who had achieved the feat in 36 innings. Moreover, the No. 1 ODI batter, who took over the captaincy in the 50-over format in 2019 is a stand-out performer in modern-day cricket.
