BAN vs WI 2025: West Indies announce squad for white-ball tour, Ackeem Auguste earns maiden call-up

Ackeem Auguste has earned his maiden call-up to the West Indies ODI squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh in the second half of October. He replaces Evin Lewis, who has been ruled out due to a wrist injury.

Khary Pierre, who made his Test debut in the first match against India earlier this month in Ahmedabad, has also earned a recall to the ODI side. He will serve as the third spinner alongside Gudakesh Motie and all-rounder Roston Chase. Additionally, Alick Athanaze returns to the squad after featuring in an ODI in December last year.

"The selection of Ackeem reflects the pathway Cricket West Indies is creating for our emerging players who have shown the qualities to perform at the international level. He is a player for the future, one who has progressed from Under-15s to the senior level, and another Academy graduate to feature in an international squad this year,” said Daren Sammy in a CWI statement as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Shamar Joseph has also been included in both the ODI and T20I squads after missing the Test tour of India, along with Alzarri Joseph, who was sidelined due to an injury. However, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has not disclosed the nature of his injury.

Motie, another player absent from the India tour, has been rested as the management aims to monitor his workload ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup. The Bangladesh series will serve as the penultimate assignment of the year for the West Indies.

"The squad assembled will strive to maintain a winning mentality and strong team cohesion, essential components for long-term success ahead of the World Cup. Facing Bangladesh provides another opportunity to earn crucial points in our push for automatic qualification to the showpiece event,” said Sammy.

For the T20Is, left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds and wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo have been included in the squad, with Jangoo set to serve as the backup wicketkeeper for captain Shai Hope. Simmonds’ selection continues his impressive rise in form, having taken 13 wickets for the Barbados Royals in the 2025 CPL and delivering figures of 4 for 15 in his second T20I against Nepal last month.

CWI described the selections as part of a concerted effort to provide players with valuable exposure to subcontinent conditions ahead of the Bangladesh series. Motie, Keacy Carty, Sherfane Rutherford, Auguste, and Jangoo will undergo training at the Chennai Super Kings Academy prior to the tour.

"With the 2026 T20 World Cup around the corner, it is important for our players to get as much practice as possible in these conditions, with that tournament being held in India and Sri Lanka. In addition to the important aspect of acclimatisation, the camp will feature skill and tactical training and development specific to those conditions, which is critical to preparing the players ahead of this series as well as next year's World Cup,” said CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe.
