Bangaldesh's Ebadot Hossain ruled out of T20 World Cup due to injury

Bangladesh have dealt a huge blow as their star bowler Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out from the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Ebadot has been deemed unfit and will miss the flight to the United States of America and West Indies this June. He had previously hinted at a rapid recovery just before the tournament and had desired to represent Bangladesh at the global event.

The pacer had collided with the umpire during Bangladesh’s home series against Afghanistan in July 2023. As a result, he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury and underwent surgery. Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed Ebadot’s unavailability on April 10. Debashish quashed any hopes of the right-arm pacer making a comeback before the T20 World Cup.

"No way (Ebadot can make a comeback before the World T20). We are not even thinking about it. It does not go (his comeback) in that time frame (before the World Cup). It takes eight to 12 months but at least you need 10 months. He was operated in December, so it will be at least October when he can make a comeback. He can make a comeback a bit earlier but certainly not in the World T20," Debashish said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Bangladesh running out of time with key players injured

Apart from Ebadot, two other Bangladesh players have been prone to injuries ahead of the marquee event. Soumya Sarkar and Taijul Islam have been off the field for ample time. Soumya hurt his knee after he collided with an advertisement board during an ODI against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Taijul injured his knee during the opening Test against Sri Lanka. However, Debashish is confident in players making a timely return with the clock ticking for the event.

"Taijul got a knee injury as well but he played with that injury. He got injured in the first Test while fielding and now rehabilitation is very important and both Soumya and Taijul's cases are quite similar. The time frame is quite close as both the injuries happened in between one week. They will take some time to recover and it is becoming difficult for us as we are running against time. I think both will be ok (before the Zimbabwe series) but we are not sure about the time frame they would require to get fully fit," he added.
