Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is fit to return to international cricket but the All India Selection Committee does not want to rush the cricketer back to action. Bumrah, who has suffered a lot of injuries in the recent past, missed the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup and multiple bilateral series and thus, the management wants him to take things slow with him.

Similarly, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was called up for the Bangladesh series but couldn’t recover from his injury, is also being assessed as per an ESPNcrininfo report. Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma will be missing the T20I series against Sri Lanka because of a thumb injury. However, he will return for the ODI series. The 35-year-old has already started training and is expected to be fully fit by the end of the first week of January.

On the other hand, senior batters KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have been rested from the T20I series. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has not been included either. The 25-year-old is currently dealing with a knee injury and will report at NCA on January 3, 2023. He is expected to spend 15 days at the academy before returning to the squad for the New Zealand and Australia series.

Further, Prasidh Krishna and Deepak Chahar are still recovering from their respective injuries. Krishna, who was an integral part of the Indian ODI set-up, sustained a back injury on the eve of India A's series against New Zealand in September. Meanwhile, Chahar has been plagued by injuries on a consistent basis and that has been a concern for the team management.

On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s sudden exit from the team is surprising. As per reports, his name was not discussed in the selection meeting and the pacer may find it hard to get into the squad after this. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj have been given a break for the T20I series and will be back for the ODIs against Sri Lanka.
