‘Broadcasters will be dying for it’ - Wasim Jaffer on possibility of India-Pakistan final in T20 World Cup 2022

The India-Pakistan encounter at the MCG in the Super 12 stages of the T20 Word Cup 2022 was clear evidence of the intensity of the fixture. More than 90,000 fans arrived in the stadium and the game went right into the wire to decide the winner. It was a game for the ages as it had a lot of twist and turns and proved to be a humdinger. Virat Kohli was the star batter in the game as he produced a blistering unbeaten half-century to take his side home. 

Ever since the game, there have been a lot of discussions on more of India-Pakistan games to take place in different venues. Notably, both these teams have now qualified for the semi-finals from Group 2 after finishing first and second. If they win their respective games in the semi-finals, then it could be another India-Pakistan final at the MCG which will be massive.  

Speaking on that, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer explained how it could be a major boost to the broadcasters.

Jaffer mentioned the broadcasters will pray for a fixture like India-Pakistan final and took a dig at Nikhil Chopra. He went on to feel that it could be a great jackpot for both the teams and added that it would be gain a lot of TRP points. 

“Absolutely, more than anyone the broadcasters will be dying, Nikhil Chopra is in the studio (with a laugh). Broadcasters will want an India-Pakistan final and I think it will a Jackpot for everyone including both nations. India-Pakistan T20 final after 2007 will be the biggest event you will see. People will watch, it will have the highest TRP in the recent times,” Jaffer told BatBricks7 Run Ki RunNeeti live show on CricTracker ahead of the first semi-final. 

“Even Melbourne game broke a lot of records, but T20 final featuring India-Pakistan will be cracker jacker event,” he added.
