With Rishabh Pant currently injured and ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, Dellhi’s middle-order seems to be the weak link at this point. Against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 11 at Arun Jaitely Stadium, U19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull made his IPL debut but couldn’t do much damage. On the other hand, Rovman Powel and Lalit Yadav too failed to make a mark. Thus, the David Warner-led side was under a lot of pressure against MI but fortunately, Axar Patel rose up to the occasion, smashed 54 runs off just 25 deliveries, and helped the franchise post 172 runs on board.
Meanwhile, speaking about his intentions with the bat, the southpaw revealed that he came out to bat with an attacking mindset and thus, managed to score runs at a quick rate. Notably, his form with the bat will also help the Indian national team, who are still looking for a left-handed batter in the middle order. Nevertheless, explaining his shots against MI, Axar stated that he managed to hold his shape properly, and that helped him play such an impactful knock.
“I was confident and backing myself. I was just trying to hit the ball if it was in my slot and came out with an attacking mindset. The ball was stopping a bit and I decided to hold my shape while playing the strokes,” Axar said while talking to the host broadcaster.
Delhi Capitals suffered their fourth straight loss in IPL 2023
The Capitals are the only side at the moment who are yet to win a single game in the ongoing season. Against Mumbai, they came very close but failed to defend two runs in the final delivery as the five-time champions defeated them by six wickets.
The win meanwhile was the Rohit Sharma-led side’s first win of the season. The skipper led by example and smashed 65 runs off 45 deliveries while Cameron Green in the end played a much-needed cameo of 17* off 8. With the win, they moved to eighth slot in the IPL Points Table while Delhi remains at number ten.
