'Can't see a single Indian staff member' - Virender Sehwag warns RCB's English-speaking staff of leaving Indian players disconnected

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have had a season to forget up until now, with them winning the sole game in the seven matches they've played so far. After a tortorous loss where a fresh record was registered by their opponents, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB find themselves at rock-bottom. They have the most negative-valued net run rate, having played an extra game than eight out of the nine franchises, with the Kolkata Knight Riders having two games in hand.

Not only do RCB have to win every match from now onwards to ensure a spot in the playoffs, but they also would have to hope for certain other results to go their way; making it an even tougher proposition for them, one in which no team would want to find themselves in. 

Speaking on the possible faults and shortcomings of RCB's current campaign on Cricbuzz, Sehwag began his appraisal by underscoring the dearth of Indian support staff, without which he feels the local and domestic players aren't able to convey and express themselves in an optimal manner. With the noteworthy personalities being Andy Flower who's the head coach along with Adam Griffith overseeing the domain of bowling, RCB boast a high-profile support staff.

They're filled with a dominant majority of the contingent being foreigners. Sehwag even highlighted the bleak reality about the majority of the Indian players not having little-to-no understanding of English, emphasizing the need for their being a need for incorporating a few more Indians into the mix, so as to encourage the local talent to confide their confidential matters in.

"If you have 12-15 Indian players, just 10 overseas, and your entire staff is made of foreigners, that's an issue. Only a few of them are international players, rest are all Indians and half of them don't even understand English. How will you motivate them? Who spends time with them? Who talks to them? I can't see a single Indian staff member. At least, there should be someone who the players can confide in," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

From the auction table to the management: Tiwary on RCB's persisting woes 

Manoj Tiwary, the co-panellist on the same show on Cricbuzz, pointed out faults with the franchise from the ground up, right from the way in which they conduct their proceedings during every auction. He alluded to the management releasing players of the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal to rival teams, who were amongst RCB's player of the season contenders for his commendable display with the ball, especially from 2019 to 2021, picking up a total of 57 wickets in three seasons. He also gave the example of relinquishing the reigns of captaincy from Virat Kohli, under whose leadership the franchise had reached the final of IPL 2016.

Four of RCB's costliest players (Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Siraj) warming the bench against SRH didn't sit right with Tiwary, who was of the opinion that big-ticket players being uninvolved with respect to proceedings was yet another litmus test to prove how basic and blatantly apparent the reason for RCB's mess this season was.
