Mark Wood had an impactful last Test match against Australia, as the home side clinched victory by three wickets. The lanky speedster was on full song and picked up seven wickets in the game including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Former England skipper, Michael Vaughan expects the Ben Stokes-led side to go with Josh Tongue and Wood for the remaining two matches of the Ashes 2023.

Vaughan thinks the injured pacer Ollie Robinson should be replaced by Josh Tongue, as Tongue can generate more pace. Cricketer-turned-commentator, Vaughan thinks the Australian tail lacks quality batting against express pace. Tongue played the Lord’s Test and was quite impressive in that game with five wickets in total. The 25-year-old has only played two Tests in his career and was asked to make way for spin-all-rounder Moeen Ali for the third game.

"Mark Wood bowling 95 MPH, can they bring Josh Tongue in as well to have two of those bowling rather quick. Can't see Australia's tail getting too many runs against Mark Wood or Josh Tongue or both in particular. This England side have got something going.

"Old Trafford will be a good pitch. It'll be bouncy and there'll be a little bit of spin for Moeen Ali and Todd Murphy," Vaughan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Robinson was injured after bowling 11.2 overs in the first innings of the Headingley Test. Despite having one bowler short for the rest of the game, the Aussies were bowled out for 224 runs in the second innings, and the home side chased down the target of 251 runs with three wickets in hand.

As a captain Ben will know and feel there is a few scars in this Australian batting line-up: Michael Vaughan

"As far as momentum, I never think momentum works in between games. Always think it comes in the game but genuinely feel this England side have got something. Because they've bowled the Aussies 3 times for under 300, as a captain Ben will know and feel there is a few scars in this Australian batting line-up," concluded Vaughan.

In the end, the inclusion of three players for the third Test, Wood, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali surely worked for the Ben Stokes-led side as they halted Australia's winning streak.
