New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson’s T20 future had been under the scanner after the Blackcaps were knocked out of the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The right-hander's strike rate was a talking point while his T20 batting approach has been questioned too. Even if he does make the cut in terms of batters for the next T20 World Cup 2024, Williamson might miss out on the T20 captaincy hat, especially given his workload.

The squads for the home series against India were announced recently and Williamson was named the captain in both ODI and T20I formats. While many players have been finding it tough to manage all three formats in the current era, the 32-year-old has expressed his desire to continue playing T20Is for his country.

A balance to strike in terms of just general volume [of cricket] is important: Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson mentioned his love for all three formats in different ways and noted that he enjoys adapting to the challenges. He further explained that workload needs to be balanced and felt that many players are trying to figure out the right direction in terms of team contribution.

"Yeah, I love all the formats, for different reasons, and in fact playing the three and changing between them is a challenge that is enjoyable," he told ESPNcricinfo in an interview facilitated by Prime Video. "But having said that, there is a balance to strike in terms of just general volume [of cricket], and that's important.

"Everybody is a little bit challenged by that, certainly some of the players that may have done it for a long time, and you're always looking to be clear with that direction - to stay fresh and focused on what is most important with your involvement in any team. Yeah, always looking to monitor that space as well as you can," he added.
