Former West Indies and RCB batter Chris Gayle voiced his opinion on Mumbai Indians’ (MI) winning momentum, which could prove to be quite a challenge for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), assuming the former makes it to the finals of the IPL 2023.

Ahead of the crucial Qualifier 2, Gayle highlighted that the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) would have an edge over Mumbai, considering that the former will have the home advantage. However, Gayle also remarked that the five-time winners are currently on a winning spree, and this momentum could eventually go on to challenge CSK in the summit clash.

“They’re (MI) going to GT’s hometown (Ahmedabad), so that’s going to be a big plus for them. That’s something we have to take into consideration. But the momentum is now with Mumbai. Is Mumbai going all the way to the final? If they do, CSK doesn’t want to see a team like Mumbai," Gayle said on JioCinema.

Notably, Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai are riding high on the back of two comprehensive wins in their last two outings. Impressively, it was their 81-run thumping over Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the Eliminator which helped them confirm their spot in Qualifier 2.

Mumbai gunning to add record sixth title

The most decorated side in the top-tier league will face quite a tricky challenge when they square off against Hardik Pandya and Co. at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26. Speaking about their head-to-head records, Mumbai have a slight upper hand with two wins in all their three meetings with Gujarat Titans in the IPL.

The five-time winners will look to come all guns blazing and put their best foot forward against GT so as to book the final spot against CSK in the summit clash. In addition to this, Rohit Sharma and Co. will be gunning to spoil the party for the yellow outfit and add a record-extending sixth title to their illustrious cabinet.
