After returning from injury, Deepak Chahar failed to impress against Lucknow Super Giants, but against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the pacer wreaked havoc with the new ball, picking up two crucial wickets of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Notably, the 30-year-old bowled three overs in the powerplay and absolutely rattled MI’s top order to give CSK a perfect start.
On the other hand, Tushar Deshpande, who is now the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, has dismissed Cameron Green in the second over of the game, and thus, MI are already on the backfoot after three overs. However, Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav fought back as MI would hope to get to a defendable total after 20 overs.
Rohit Sharma becomes the player with most ducks in IPL history
MI skipper Rohit Sharma once again failed to open his account as he became the player with the highest number of ducks in the history of the cash-rich league. Previously, he was tied with players like Sunil Narine, Mandeep Singh and Dinesh Karthik with 15 ducks, but now, Rohit has overtaken them and has 16 ducks to his name. With that, he also overtook Gautam Gambhir in the list of most ducks by an IPL captain.
Meanwhile, this is a very bad sign for the Indian team, who are slated to take on Australia in the World Test Championship finale in about a month’s time. Being the skipper, he is expected to lead by example, but so far, Rohit has managed to amass only 184 runs in ten matches. Thus, the cricketer will have to improve at the business end of the tournament in order to help Mumbai qualify for the IPL playoffs.
When it comes to Chennai, they are currently third on the IPL Points Table and, thus, cannot afford to drop any more points at the moment. On the contrary, they will be desperate to finish well in order to qualify in the top two so that they get another shot to make it to the finals of the competition.
