England and Pakistan are locking horns in Match 44 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Saturday, November 11 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. England captain Joss Buttler won the toss in the all-important game for both teams and much to Pakistan’s dismay, decided to bat first thereby further crushing Pakistan’s hopes for a semi-final qualification.

England got off to a good start to their innings with openers Dawid Malan (31 off 39) and Jonny Bairstow (59 off 61) adding 82 runs for the first wicket off 81 balls. However, Pakistan made a comeback by dismissing the opening duo which brought Ben Stokes and Joe Root to the crease.

Meanwhile, during the England innings, fans were reminded of former India captain MS Dhoni as Mohammad Rizwan failed to collect the ball between his legs.  The incident took place on the fourth ball of the 24th over bowled by Shadab Khan as Stokes attempted a reverse sweep. However, the ball turned sharply and went between Rizwan’s legs four 4 byes. Seeing him missing the ball, commentator Nasser Hussian remembered MS Dhoni who used to bring his pads together to stop the ball from nutmegging him, however, Rizwan failed to do so.

On the other hand, Root went on to score 60 (72) smashing four fours in his innings.
