Danni Wyatt to skip upcoming WBBL season due to fatigue

Aggressive England batter Danni Wyatt has decided to skip the upcoming edition of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) citing fatigue. Wyatt was set to play for Perth Scorchers Women as she was a gold pick for the team in the draft earlier this month. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine was retained at platinum. Wyatt was rested from England's recent ODI series against Sri Lanka at home.

Amy Jones was picked by the direct nomination route by the Scorchers as the third overseas player. However, they will now have to look for a replacement for Wyatt. Head coach Becky Grundy was quite excited after bagging the services of the 32-year-old at the draft and felt that her ability to bat at different positions would bode well for the team. However, she will have to prepare fresh plans with the unavailability of Wyatt.

Meanwhile, Brisbane Heat have acquired the services of England leg spinner Sarah Glenn as cover for New Zealand allrounder Amelia Kerr, who will miss the early goings of WBBL. Kerr's unavailability for the first few matches was known well in advance but Brisbane had no hesitation in signing her as their platinum pick.

Australia seamer Megan Schutt spoke about the increase in the number of matches in women's cricket in recent times. The 30-year-old revealed that the players have had conversations with coaches regarding the importance of managing their workloads.

"Our schedule as a whole is pretty intimidating to be honest. But just having the choice is probably the ultimate opportunity in itself. There's so many leagues now that if someone does want to do the T20 circuit, that's bloody awesome. If they have the body and desire to keep doing that then that's cool. But it's definitely daunting and something we've discussed with our coaches about how we are going to manage ourselves," Schutt told ESPNcricinfo.

The impending WBBL begins on October 19, with last year's finalist Sydney Sixers taking on Melbourne Stars in Sydney.
