The 44th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a thrilling clash between the defending champions Gujarat Titans and the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 2.
Coming in to bat first, Delhi Capitals managed to post 130 runs on the board in the first innings. The side had been struggling to find their form in the IPL 2023, and with a low total against the defending champions, Delhi looked to be plummeting toward yet another hefty loss.
However, through a brilliant display by the bowlers, the side managed to come out as the winners. Khaleel Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, and Kuldeep Yadav put in sensational spells, and with a win, they barely managed to keep their hopes for playoff qualification alive.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra was of a similar opinion. He opined that Delhi’s win against Gujarat has barely kept their qualification hopes alive, and with the top four teams losing points recently, the David Warner-led side is still in the tournament.
"If you see the last four matches, whichever team was there in the top four lost. Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants lost, and now Gujarat Titans have also lost. Delhi have got a win. They are alive, but the team is still on the ventilator," Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Everything that was going right for Gujarat fell apart this time: Chopra
Aakash Chopra also talked about the performance of the Gujarat Titans in the game. Having lost three matches at home does not seem like a good sign for the defending champions. However, despite the loss, the team sits in first place in the IPL points table.
"Everything that was going right for Gujarat fell apart this time. This has happened a few times now this season. They are still secure, but losing three matches at home is not a great story. However, they are still a good side," Chopra said.
