There have been plenty of entertaining knocks in the ongoing IPL 2023 edition. Though some batters have played some scintillating knocks, only a few batters have not only scored truckloads of runs but also maintained consistency in various editions of the mega cricket carnival. As we know some batters are just exceptionally gifted when it comes to strokeplay while some are known for their attacking cricket such as Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and a few more.
However, there is one player who has been racking up tons of runs for the past few years in the Indian Premier League. Moreover, he possesses all the virtues of a batter, be it playing attacking cricket or playing the anchor role. That player is one of the legends in T20 cricket and quite a notable name in Australian cricket and also in the IPL. Yes! He is none other than David Warner.
Warner has been one of the most explosive players to have graced the 22 yards. Speaking of his IPL journey, the ace opener has played 168 matches and has amassed 6166 runs at a decent average of 42.23. Moreover, he is currently the third-highest run-getter in the history of the league with four centuries and 59 half-centuries. Only Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan are ahead of him.
Hence, it comes as no surprise when we compare his batting records against a certain team. While playing against the KKR in the ongoing IPL season, David Warner surpassed none other than the 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma to become the batter who has scored the most runs against the Kolkata-based franchise. The Aussie has notched up a staggering 1042 runs in 26 innings with an emphatic strike rate of 146.
The MI skipper has now been displaced to the second spot with 1040 runs from 32 innings. He is followed by Shikhar Dhawan (850 runs) and the legendary Mr IPL aka Suresh Raina (829 runs) in the elite list.
David Warner sets up the run chase against KKR with a brilliant fifty
Despite having a dismal season in 2022, David Warner has always shown his form and class sooner or later. As a result, he has been one of the most consistent performers in the league. Speaking of his ongoing season, the Aussie has racked up 285 runs from six innings so far with a stellar average of 47.50. In the initial phases he was leading the run charts but of late Faf du Plessis has surpassed him as the leading run-getter with 343 runs to his name.
Therefore, he has been the mainstay of the Delhi Capitals side. Moreover, he took the captaincy mantle from Rishabh Pant after he got ruled out of the tournament. Even though Warner has played in an unusual way in the IPL 2023 season with his strike rate becoming a major concern, he has led the batting unit from the front on most occasions along with playing the anchor role for the DC franchise.
Currently, DC are chasing a target of 128 runs against KKR in Delhi. After having a horrid season so far, today the home team is looking good to open their account in the IPL points table. As of now, David Warner brought up another fifty (57 off 41 balls) to his name. Notably, he smacked 11 fours during his stay at the crease. Consequently, his innings has put the hosts in a commanding position against KKR.
