Ellyse Perry recently re-signed for Sydney Sixers and will be playing for them in the Women's Big Bash League for two more seasons. She might be facing some issues with her knee and is also on the wrong side of her 30s, but the experienced Australian cricketer stated that she is not pondering retirement at the moment and gave reasons for the same.
The star all-rounder, who has been on the professional cricket circuit for almost two decades, expressed her ecstasy as the popularity of women's sports has been growing by leaps and bounds worldwide. She pointed out how the recently-concluded Women's Ashes witnessed good crowds across all three formats of the game. The growing craze for women's sports is spurring Perry to push her limits and keep retirement thoughts out of her mind.
"It's pure speculation to know what happens in a couple years' time but from my perspective, I still love being involved. In terms of motivation, it's still exactly the same, if not more," Perry was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.
"In a lot of senses, it's (women's sport) arrived, and things just become more and more exciting every year. After our Ashes campaign over in the UK and the way that that was followed, the crowd numbers that we drew, the level of competition that it presented - it's hard not to want to be involved for as long as possible."
Meg Lanning’s obviously got the full support of the playing squad: Ellyse Perry
The experienced Australian cricketer Meg Lanning was ruled out of the Women's Ashes due to medical reasons. Her long-time teammate and friend, Ellyse Perry, stated that the Australian players are always there for the 31-year-old and also hoped that she would return to the field soon.
"We've seen Meg around and she's obviously got the full support of the playing squad. She'll be available for cricket if and when she wants to be."
