News of the third ODI against England set to be Rohit Sharma's last in India colours has been doing the rounds on social media and news platforms alike. The reports have suggested that the selectors have told Rohit that he is not in their plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The mercurial batter has been one of the stalwarts of the Indian side in this format and is the third-highest run-scorer for India in ODI cricket.
Speaking of the emergence of the news during the second ODI of the series, Famed broadcaster and former Indian cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri lauded the achievements and the gargantuan status of Rohit in ODI cricket and confirmed that he has indeed had an interaction with the selectors.
“It's buzzing in the media box, in the press box. Just came from there and you don't know how much it's true, whether it's a rumour. The fact is, they've had a word with him. He's had a word with them, and he's pushing 40. That's been one of the great giants of the white ball game. Three double hundreds. Just made batting look easy. India missed out on winning the ODI World Cup. He's got the record for the most hundreds in the World Cup. Five of them in the UK in the 2019 edition,” Shastri said on commentary during the second ODI, quoted by the Hindustan Times.

His recent runs in the format have not been impressive, with scores of 11 and 26 in the ongoing series. His 26 in the second ODI came off 47 balls in a laborious knock, as India were bundled out for 233 after a solid start. With Yashasvi Jaiswal waiting in the wings in red-hot form, the selectors are reportedly keen on giving him a longer run in the ODI setup.
