ENG-W vs IND-W 2025: 'We want to try and kill games sooner' - Kate Cross reveals England's mindset heading into ODIs versus India

"It certainly looked like we've looked calmer under pressure on Saturday, which is the sign of a team that's moving in the right direction," Kate Cross said about England's tense win in fifth T20I.

The England team has been bolstered by the comeback of veteran speedster Kate Cross for the three-match ODI series against India. She, along with Alice Davidson-Richards and Emma Lamb, missed the preceding five-match T20I series between the two teams, which India won 3-2.

England's two wins were decided off the last ball in the T20Is. Cross feels that being able to hold nerves under pressure and bagging tight wins are positives the hosts are looking to take into the ODI series.

"We won some really key moments under pressure and we managed to win two really close games under pressure. That's something that is talked about with this group, how we might not necessarily always win those moments, so they were two huge positives," Cross was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Cross also pointed out that England could have won the fifth T20I much earlier. The Tammy Beaumont-led side eventually emerged victorious off the last ball, chasing down a 168-run target with five wickets left to spare.

"If you think of the Edgbaston game, if we'd been in that really strong position to win it and then gone on to lose that game, then a lot more questions would be being asked. We won it, so that was great but equally we don't want to be in those positions. We want to try and kill games sooner," she said.

"Every cricketer that you talk to will be trying to do that, but mistakes are made along the way and pressure is put on you as a cricketer and teams are allowed to bowl well and bat well and take spectacular catches in the deep that change the momentum of the game," she added.

Kate Cross wants England to be calm in pressure situations

Cross believes that England maintained their calmness when the pressure was high in the fifth T20I. The 33-year-old feels that these wins will stand them in good stead in marquee events like World Cups, the Ashes, and the ODI series against India.

"It certainly looked like we've looked calmer under pressure on Saturday, which is the sign of a team that's moving in the right direction. The calmer we can be under those pressure moments, then the better we'll be in those huge moments in World Cups and Ashes series and going down to the wire against India in a three-match one-day series," Cross opined.

The first ODI in the three-match series between India and England is set to be played at The Rose Bowl on Wednesday, July 16.
