‘England dominated this one, we definitely got out of jail’ – Cameron Green opens up on retaining Ashes following rain-ruined Manchester Test

The Australia all-rounder, Cameron Green, opened up on his side’s luck after retaining the Ashes following a rain-ruined fourth Test which eventually led to a draw against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. Notably, the Three Lions were in a comfortable position after posting a humongous 592 runs in the second innings thereby piling up a 275-run lead.

Winning the Manchester Test would have helped the Ben Stokes-led side get back on level terms in the five-match Ashes 2023. However, luck proved to be a major factor as persistent showers at the venue coupled with Australia’s 2-1 lead in the series helped them retain the urn. On that note, Aussie all-rounder Green admitted that his side was behind the game and that luck played a role in retaining the Ashes.

“I think we definitely got away with one there. There’s no point denying it. Whilst we were behind the game, and you never know what would have happened, cricket is a funny game, but England dominated this one. We definitely got out of jail. We didn’t play our best game. The rain gods were in our favour the last couple of days. You just take it and move on to the next game,” Cameron Green told cricket.com.au.

We’ll keep it level-headed in the fifth Test: Green 

Cameron Green further recalled the fifth Test in 2019 played at The Oval and how England’s comeback resulted in getting on level terms in the series. The all-rounder stated that the side will be heading to the final Test at the same venue with a ‘level head’ so as to clinch the series. Notably, the Aussies have failed to win the Ashes in an away series since 2001 and will be gunning to end the peculiar record.

“The last time they were here they had a win here to retain the Ashes, but it’s a bit different this time around. I’m sure a few guys are hurting from last time. We’ll keep it level-headed and looking forward to the next game,” Green added.
